F5 rSeries System Architecture Overview

1. r10000 Series Specs Overview

• The r10000 (rSeries) is a 1RU appliance that has 3 different licensing options that unlock more CPU resources.
  • r10600 / r10800 / r10900
• The power supply
  • AC power version
  • DC power versions will be available in the future
  • By default, 2 power supplies are included
• CPU Cores
  • 24 physical CPU cores / 48 vCPUs
  • 12 of the vCPUs are dedicated to the F5OS platform layer
  • Additionally, some vCPUs are disabled to provide different pricing model (PAYG licensing)
• Memory
  • 256GB of RAM
• Storage
  • Dual 1TB SSD’s that are RAID-1 mirrored

2. r10000 Series Hardware And Ports Overview

• TMM interfaces
  • 4 x 100Gb/40Gb ports that support QSFP28/QSFP+ optics
  • 16 x 25Gb/10Gb ports that support SFP+/SFP28 optics
• TMM interface compatibility
  • Adjacent highspeed (40Gb or 100Gb) ports (1.0 & 2.0 or 11.0 & 12.0) must be configured for the same speed.
    • Can’t have one port at 40Gb and the other at 100Gb currently
    • Can have ports 1.0 and 2.0 at one speed, and 11.0 & 12.0 at another
  • The high-speed ports don’t support unbundling into lower speeds (25Gb / 10Gb).
    • Don’t support breakout cables (unbundling)
    • Only 40Gb or 100Gb are supported on those ports
• Controls and ports (front view)
  • 1x 1Gb Ethernet out-of-band management port
  • 1x serial console port
  • 1x serial (hard wired) failover port (not utilized or not supported)
  • 1x USB3.0 port (for recovering/reinstalling system software)
  • LEDs will change color to indicate different port speeds
  • Status LEDs provide appliance status, alarm, and power supply status
  • LCD Panel
• AC power model (back view)
  • 2x power supplies and AC inputs (included)
  • Removable fan tray (serviceable)
  • Chassis Ground Terminal (can be used when performing maintenance)

3. r4000 Series Specs Overview

• The r4000 (rSeries) is a 1RU appliance that has 2 different licensing options that unlock more CPU resources.
  • r4600 / r4800
• The power supply
  • AC power version
  • DC power versions will be available in the future
  • By default, only 1 power supply is included and the second is optional
• CPU Cores
  • 16 physical CPU cores (no hyperthreading)
  • No CPUs are dedicated to the F5OS platform layer
  • Additionally, some CPUs are disabled to provide different pricing model (PAYG licensing)
• Memory
  • 64GB of RAM
• Storage
  • Single 480GB SSD (no option for dual/redundant disk)

4. r4000 Series Hardware And Ports Overview

• TMM interfaces
  • 4 x 10Gb/1Gb copper ports
  • 4 x 25Gb/10Gb/1Gb ports that support SFP+/SFP28 optics
• Controls and ports (front view)
  • 1x 1Gb Ethernet out-of-band management port
  • 1x serial console port
  • 1x serial (hard wired) failover port (not utilized or not supported)
